Carolina Panthers trade veteran LB Denzel Perryman to Las Vegas Raiders

The Carolina Panthers agreed to trade veteran linebacker Denzel Perryman to the Las Vegas Raiders on Wednesday.

The Panthers are sending Perryman and a 2022 seventh-round draft pick to the Raiders in exchange for a 2022 sixth-round selection, according to the team. The deal is pending a physical.

Carolina signed Perryman in free agency earlier this off-season, but the former Los Angeles Chargers linebacker was unable to surpass Jermaine Carter for the starting job in the middle.

Perryman also had to deal with a hip flexor issue that forced him to miss some time in training camp, and he was sidelined for the past two days after a teammate stepped on his foot during practice.

The Chargers selected Perryman in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft out of the University of Miami. He spent his first six seasons with the Chargers, including last season when he played in 13 games (six starts).

Perryman left the Chargers in free agency after the 2020 campaign and signed a two-year contract with the Panthers in March. Now, he’ll reunite with former Chargers defensive coordinator Gus Bradley, who is the current defensive coordinator for the Raiders.

In 69 career games, Perryman has notched 349 total tackles, five sacks, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, three interceptions and six passes defensed.
