Pitt Sheriff: Greenville man arrested following checkpoint and chase

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) -The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office says a Greenville man who fled from a checkpoint and led law enforcement on a chase, was arrested and charged with numerous crimes.

The sheriff’s office and NC Highway Patrol conducted the checkpoint Saturday night on Old River Road.

They say 29-year-old Darrius Montine Ward, Jr. entered the checkpoint, but then refused to follow commands and drove away at a high rate of speed leading to a chase.

Ward’s vehicle was located behind a residence on John Brown Court and was seized.

Ward was charged with six offenses, including resisting, delaying, and obstructing an officer and felony flee to elude arrest.

He was taken to the Pitt County Detention Center and released after posting a $15,000 secured bond.
